One question I get asked a lot is how to meditate. I have
never been able to meditate the traditional way. My mind just refuses to be
still, and I cannot manage to breathe in for 10 seconds, then out for 10
seconds. I have also had to learn to meditate while standing beside Samantha's
hospital bed.
This is a very simple technique which I learned so long ago that I had forgotten
about it. It was one of the first techniques I learned and I do not remember
where I learned it.
Get in a comfortable position. I usually lie down, which is not really good,
because I usually fall asleep. Sitting with a straight back is better to keep
you awake.
Take a deep breath in through your nose, filling your lungs as full as you can.
Breathe from your abdomen and feel your abdomen rise as your lungs fill. Now,
breathe out through your mouth very slowly, letting every bit of the air release
from your lungs. Breathe in again through your nose, filling your lungs, then
slowly out your mouth. Continue to breathe this way for 100 breaths.
You will find that the more you do this breathing, the more relaxed you become.
Each meditation session will take you deeper than the one before.
