Breath Is Life

Breath is LifeIn times of stress, we tend to breathe very shallowly. This is caused by the tension in our bodies. As we continue to breathe shallowly, our stress increases. The only way to relax and release the stress is to take slow, deep breaths.

Have you ever watched a baby breathe? As it takes in a breath, you will see it’s stomach rise and then fall as the breath is released. Notice how you breathe. If you are like most people, only your chest will rise and fall. If you are only moving your chest when you take a breath, then you are not breathing correctly.

Practice breathing with your diaphragm. As you take a breath, bring the air deep into your lungs so that your abdomen rises. As your lungs fill with air, your chest will then rise. Continue to practice breathing in this way until it becomes your natural way of breathing. Once you can do this, you will notice less stress and tension in your body. You will be able to think more clearly because of the increase in oxygen. You will feel better, more centered, and calmer. When you find yourself stressed and breathing shallowly, take a moment to center yourself and breathe deeply for a few moments. This will help to relax you so that you can think clearly.
